It's a natural progression for a former wire goddess to go from jewelry to chain maille (also called wire knitting) to knitting and right on back to wire work by making some stitch markers. Well, it's natural if you've got ADD tendencies like myself.
Thanks to my pal Carolyn I was inspired to try my hand. They aren't much different from earrings, and serve a double purpose: to mark those stitches and look cute on the needles. Before I show you the markers (they are xposted on her blog as well), let me tell you about Carolyn. She's a knitter to behold. She spins, she dies, and she knits sox without a pattern. At the first Ya Ya meeting, I brought my sorry excuse for my first sock (that I just happened to be knitting inside out) and I'm watching her knitting about 2 stitches per second* on size 2 dpn's. Size 2, folks. No easy task, lemme tell you. I was lost on size 7's myself.
At our last meeting, she showed us the cute st markers that she had acquired elsewhere, and I was pained to see that half of the set were plain jump rings. I told her that I could make some really cute ones, too, and maybe for a bit cheaper than what she had previously paid. Gauging her reaction today, I think I succeeded. My chest got all puffy, and stuff. I almost cried, but Divine Goddesses of the Ya Ya Sisterhood can't be ruining their mascara in mixed company...you should have seen Mr. Muscles that showed up in the parking lot later.
But I digress, on to the markers. Here they are, in all of their beady glory.
No guessing why I've named them sox pro. I know you read the beginning of the post and didn't skip to the picture.
I made some other sets with names, too. Yarn Ho, Inc 1 (because all girls just need a little bit more), Knit Me. I have plans for more in the works, and plans to get pictures soon. I have to beg digital controband off of the YaYas in the meantime!
Thanks to Carolyn for the pic and the courage to post these here.
You can get some of your own, but the sox pro set can't be recreated, it's a YaYa exclusive!
Updates soon, stay tuned.
